Back in May the Environment Agency released a 100-year plan to protect part of the coast of the UK from erosion by the sea. Today, the new head of the Agency has said that parts of the UK's coastline might be abandoned to the sea.
The process of erosion is obviously an ongoing one, but the times when the nation's institutions recognise it and attempt to deal with it - or not, as the case may be - can resonate with astrological cycles.
Saturn is associated with borders and boundaries, but also with the land itself. The IC is similarly associated with the land of the country, and specifically any areas where the land meets the sea. The Ascendant-Descendant axis is the point of contact with the environment, with the Descendant in particular being the point where the nation meets the rest of the world and interacts with it. The process of erosion and the sea are both associated with Neptune.
The UK's Saturn is at 23 degrees 22 minutes of Leo. The IC is at 9 degrees 20 minutes of Capricorn. The Descendant is at 7 degrees 10 minutes of Aries.
The 100-year coast plan was released on 22nd May 2008, so we're looking at a May-to-August time-frame. During that time was there an aspect from Neptune and the UK's Saturn? Yes.
Neptune is at 24 degrees 15 minutes of Aquarius, so is making a once-in-168-years opposition to Saturn in the nation's chart. Moreover, Neptune is on the midpoint of the IC and the Descendant, the point where the land (IC) and the outside world (Desc) intersect. Neptune is also forming a semisquare with the UK's IC and Sun. The other major water planet, Pluto, is slowly moving towards the IC and the Sun - we need to radically alter our relationship to our landmass, and do it now.
We urgently need to sort ourselves out in relation to all forms of water: rain, rivers, the sea, drinking water, and so on. This is the time to do it and we need to seize the moment or we'll miss the chance for a very, very long time.
